Prayer Guide for July 25, Aug 1 & 8 , 2008
Scripture:
“ Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business?” – Luke 2:49
Reflection:
“I have talked with (trafficking) survivors all over the world, including the United States, and I share the view that these women and girls — the average age of entry into prostitution is 14 — are not participating in the “oldest profession” but in the oldest form of abuse. They are slaves.”
— John R. Miller, former State Department ambassador at large on modern slavery as quoted in the The New York Times: July 11, 2008
Update and Prayer:
· Please pray for some upcoming events in the BC Lower Mainland:
— REED (Resist Exploitation, Embrace Dignity) and the Vancouver Whistler Games Network (VWGN) are hosting an evening for those in the faith community with a concern about human trafficking during the 2010 Olympics and beyond. The event will take place on August 20 from 7-9pm at Grandview Calvary Baptist Church located at 1803 E. 1st Ave., Vancouver, BC V5N 1B2.
— Combating Human Trafficking : Building Best Practices in BC and Beyond
BC’s Office to Combat Trafficking in Persons (OCTIP) will hold its first conference October 29-30 , 2008 in Vancouver, BC.
· Please pray for the revised edition of “Discovering God’s Heart for Suffering Women: A 40-day Prayer Pilgrimage” that is currently at the printer. Copies will be distributed in the US and Canada to those who want to pray for 40 days prior to the PASCH (Peace and Safety in the Christian Home) conference held in Washington, DC from Oct. 10-12. This journal has been translated into several languages and we believe it’s part of God’s work to end all abuse against women and children, including human trafficking.
